How the VBJJ team prepares

  • Comprehensive classes with harder rounds and competition strategy.
  • Kids S&C on Saturdays at 11:30 AM for competitive kids.
  • Rules from a referee. Professor Aviado is certified to referee for ADCC, IBJJF, JJIF, SJJIF and OJA.

FAQ

Competition questions

Do I have to compete if I train at Vaughan BJJ?

No. Competing is optional for every member.

Can white belts and kids compete?

Yes. Most tournaments have white belt and kids divisions, and some events, like round-robin formats, are built for newer competitors.

How do I register for a tournament?

Registration happens on each organizer’s website, usually closing one to two weeks before the event. Talk to your coach first so you enter the right division and ruleset.

What is the difference between IBJJF and submission-only events?

IBJJF events score points for positions and finish early on a submission. Submission-only events have no points, so a match is won by submission or a referee decision.

Train with a competition team.

No experience or fitness needed. The team usually confirms within a few hours.
