For parents

A parent’s guide to kids jiu-jitsu.

What your child learns, how we keep them safe, and how you will know they are progressing.

Vaughan Jiu-Jitsu Academy teaches kids from age 4 in two programs: play-based Kids B1 (ages 4 to 6) and a structured belt curriculum, Kids Levels 1 to 3 (ages 7 to 12). Classes include anti-bullying strategies, and parents receive a quarterly progress report.

Safety first

  • No punching or kicking. Kids learn to control, not hurt.
  • Partners matched by size and age, with a coach supervising every round.
  • Tapping stops any exercise instantly, and kids learn it on day one.

Character, not just technique

Every class follows a student code: full attention on the instructor, respect for training partners and consistent effort. Parents tell us it carries over to school and home.

A real plan for bullying

Confident posture and words first, walking away and telling an adult second, and only if needed, safe control techniques that stop a situation without striking. Read BJJ and bullying.

You'll see the progress

Families receive a quarterly progress report listing what their child covered in class, plus email updates about seminars, gradings and competitions.

Kids B1 is for ages 4 to 6. Kids Levels 1 to 3 is for ages 7 to 12. Teens 13 and up can join adult fundamentals classes.
