Head instructor
Professor Mike Aviado.
2nd degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, 2026 IBJJF European Champion and certified referee for ADCC, IBJJF, JJIF, SJJIF and OJA.
Michael "Mike" Aviado is the head instructor of Vaughan Jiu-Jitsu Academy, a 2nd degree black belt and the 2026 IBJJF European Champion, with 13 major titles since 2017.
A world-level competitor who still teaches the fundamentals class himself. Members describe him the same way: "kind and gracious, but a killer on the mats."
Because he referees for five major organizations, his students learn the rules from both sides of the mat, which matters the first time you compete.
